A Humanitarian Family

Long story short: My grandparents were HUGE humanitarians, for over 50 years they travelled a few times a year to Jamaica and Cuba, supporting families and schools with clothes, computers, school supplies, bikes, etc. From a young age I was lucky enough to see this in person and grew up knowing how fortunate we are and how little some people live with. They were amazing people. … both of them passed away just over a year ago.

My uncle and my 2 cousins are going to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of my grandparents. Their goal is to raise $5,000 for Plan Canada – a global movement for change. They want to purchase mosquito nets for people in regions with high Malaria rates ($10 a net – keeps a family safe for 3 years) and a farm load of animals that will give a community a chance at a regular income.

This is a cause that would make my grandparents so very proud. Being the oldest grandchild I said I could bring the cause to our Ambassadors and we could do some fundraising with our usual raffles, and monthly BBQ, donating the profits we make in May to their goal.

We will have a BBQ on Thursday May 29th at noon and at 6 pm (hot dogs & hamburgers & some other treats). Also - starting next week Ambassadors will be selling raffle tickets each day for some gift cards we will purchase along with any other prizes we may accumulate along the way. The draw for prizes will be at the BBQ on the 29th.
